Where Computers Must Go When They Die

The average number of years that a computer would last would be at 1-5 years. Since this is so, more and more computers and computer parts are flooding landfills. This is not a pretty sight and this is clearly an environmental hazard. Here are some ways to let go of your computers without harming the environment:

· The best option for PC disposal is not to dispose it at all. It can be reused by selling the computer to a secondary market or by donating it to a charitable institution. There are also several auction sites where old computers could be placed for bidding. EBay or Amazon.com might as well be your primary choices.

When it comes to donations, there are many schools that need what seems to be garbage to other people. There are a lot of private and public organizations that are willing to help any owner who is planning to dispose his computer.
· Depending on the state, there are many ways to carry out computer recycling. Minnesota, Massachusetts and California all ban landfills and they have well-organized recycling programs. In all the other states, recycling could be a bit more difficult to do but not totally impossible. There are recycling companies that would do the job at a certain fee.
· Trading-in is also a good option for computer disposal. Computer manufacturers like Dell, Hewlett-Packard/Compaq and Gateway can help you do that.

Help save the environment by being responsible. Donate, recycle or reuse—other than that, you’re just clogging the environment!
